MODALITY
In this third edition of the Symposium “Light in the Museum and Heritage Preservation”, participants may opt for a 100% virtual or face-to-face participation.
The in-person event will take place in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina.
The venue will be the Department of Lighting, Light and Vision, Faculty of Engineering located in the Centro Herrera complex, or "Quinta Agronómica" of the National University of Tucumán.
Stefan Michalski
Heritage Conservation Scientist, graduated from Queen's University's Master of Art Conservation. Between 1979 and 2020 he worked at the Canadian Conservation Institute. He has developed many tools to help preserve collections, including the Relative Humidity Control Module (1981), the Light Damage Slide Rule (1988), the Light Damage Calculator (2012), among others.
In partnership with ICCROM and the Instituut Collectie Nederland, developed the Risk Reduction to Collections (2003-2011) course, the manual and the software that CCI currently uses for risk assessments in Canada.
Suzanne MacLeod
Professor at the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester, she is also co-director of the Research Center for Museums and Galleries (RCMG). Graduated in history of art and architecture, she holds an MA in art museum and gallery studies from the University of Manchester and a PhD in architectural history and theory from University College London. She has extensive experience working with cultural organizations in collaborative research and has published numerous books and edited volumes on museums´ architecture.
Andrea Morello
Architect, Master in Restoration and Rehabilitation of the Heritage at the Alcalá de
Henares University (Madrid, Spain) and Specialist in Preservation, Conservation, and
Recycling of Urban and Rural Monumental Heritage (Faculty of Architecture, Design,
and Urbanism, FADU - University of Buenos Aires, UBA). Among others, currently, she
works as Project Team Coordinator in the National Commission of Monuments of
Places and Historical Goods. She is also a Professor in the Career of Specialization in
Preservation, Conservation, and Recycling of Heritage and a Researcher at the Center
for the Conservation of Rural-Urban Heritage, CECPUR (FADU-UBA).
Mojtaba Navvab
Associate Professor at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Michigan. Bachelor and Master in Architecture from the University of California Berkeley. Ph.D. by the University of Michigan. His practice and teaching focus on architectural design, natural and artificial lighting, acoustics, renewable energy sources and their optimization with energy efficiency criteria based on the US Green Building Council and LEED certification. Member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). He has received five IESNA's International Illumination Design Awards (IIDA) and several awards for his contribution to some of the most prestigious architectural commissions of the 20th century.
Marina Gibbons
Assistant Curator at Los Angeles Museum of Natural History. Graduated from University College London's Dual Masters Conservation Program (M.A., MS.c.). She has previously worked at the Harvard Semitic Museum in Cambridge and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. One of her main research interests is the conservation and production of wax anatomical models.
Juan Antonio Herraez
Responsible for the Department of Preventive Conservation of the Research and Training Area of the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain (IPCE, Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports) since 1986. With a first degree in Biological Sciences, he is also specialist in Environmental Biology from the Autonomous University of Madrid. His teaching activity includes giving courses, seminars and training on preventive conservation in museums.
He acts as an advisor in museums, exhibition halls and institutions related to the conservation of cultural property.
Santiago Torres
Architect and Lighting Designer (U of Buenos Aires). Postgraduated as Msc and PhD at the University of Tokyo. Since 2006 he has worked for OVE ARUP international company, with which he has designed natural and artificial lighting for numerous projects by renowned architects: Rijksmuseum in Amterdam, the Folkwang Museum in Germany (David Chipperfield), the Tjuvholmen Icon Complex Museum in Oslo (Renzo Piano), the London Aquatic Center (Zaha Hadid) and the Education City in Qatar (OMA).
Mariana Di Giacomo
Collections Curator and Paleontologist at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History in New Haven, CT. Interested in the preservation and conservation of natural history collections. She works as a researcher and is interested in education and extension.
Monica Lobo
President of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). She is an
Architect and Urban Planner who graduated from the University of Santa Ursula, in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). She is the first certified designer in Latin America, founder of the Brazilian Association of Lighting Architects and one of the drivers of the Ibero-American Meeting of Lighting Design. In 1997 she founded the LD Studio, a firm that has received international awards, including the Award of Excellence for Exterior Lighting Design and the IALD Award of Merit, both for the Church of Pampulha in 2006.
Verónica Jeria
Bachelor in Museology. She is a member of the Conservation and Museography Team of the Ethnographic Museum of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, FFyL - University of Buenos Aires, UBA. Associate Professor of Museum Conservation at the National University of the Arts. She has given courses and theoretical-practical workshops organized by different institutions on topics related to museum organization, exhibition design, and preservation of heritage. She is a professor in the Specialization in Museums, Cultural Transmission, and Collection Management" at the FFyL-UBA. She is a member of the Association of Museum Workers.
Valeria Keller
Graphic Designer (FADU-UBA), MBA in Performing Arts UBA.
Since 2020 responsible for the Exhibition Design Area of the National Museums´ office of the National Ministry of Culture.
She has delivered seminars and workshops on design and staging of exhibitions and is responsible for the design, production and montage of a large number of exhibitions in spaces such as the Borges Cultural Center, the Victoria Ocampo Villa Cultural Center, the YPF Art Foundation, OSDE Foundation, among others.
